A group of regional stakeholders for an exciting design charrette hosted by Perkins Eastman and the planning team. Design focus areas included Doughboy Square, the riverfront trail, potential green connections throughout the study area, Smallman Street and the intersection of 40th Street and Butler Street. The outcome of this charrette will be presented at a community meeting in October 2009.

I chose to attend the working group centered around the 40th and Butler Street intersection in Lawrenceville. This is an incredibly dangerous intersection in terms of pedestrian safety. The intersection also creates a lengthy break in the continuity of our business district and it was interesting to imagine how this might be knit back together. It was also interesting to discuss how the existing area under the 40th Street bridge might be a more active recreation and green space in the neighborhood.

I attended the Heth's Run project update & ice cream social earlier this September. The gathering of Morningside, Highland Park residents, local business purveyors and local officials was well represented, informative and worthwhile. As a young homeowner I am grateful to have the opportunity to learn about projects happening in my neighborhood. While this is a long term solution, knowing the day to day issues of traffic, parking and human frustration are being addressed is a bit of unexpected comfort. Having support from those involved by sharing updates on the planning, execution and potential pitfalls of the project shows there is a human side to Urban Development in the area. Seeing faces of city and county representatives at a community meeting helps me feel there is an ear in local government. The free ice cream from Zebra Station made for a sweet finale!

We kayaked from the Millvale Boathouse to the North Shore Kayak Pittsburgh launch. Seeing the riverfront from the water is a unique experience every time. There is unexpected wildlife and greenery. I especially liked paddling under the bridges and seeing how they connect to the shore.

This was great!

Our thanks to you for arranging such enjoyable trips. The professional manner in which the Dragon boating was presented took me back many years to training in sports at school. It was a joy to feel so young again! The historical accounts given at intervals along the Allegheny as we biked were greatly enjoyed.
Best wishes for the success of your vision for the future of the riverfront.
I attended the Dragon Boating event with the Pittsburgh Paddlefish. I went with a neighbor of mine and had a fabulous time! The river was beautiful and weather was perfect the night we were out. The folks from the Pittsburgh Paddlefish were so much fun and I learned a lot about Dragon Boating and different sights on the river they pointed out as we went along. I have gone to several more Dragon Boating sessions with the Paddlefish as a result of that night. You have a whole new appreciation for our beautiful city when you see if from the water!
